When Ideology Replaces Truth: The Moral Contradiction of HB 112
This article argues that Virginia’s HB 112 reveals a moral contradiction in society by granting protections to baby animals while unborn human life remains cont
This logic of the political left is on full display in the recent passage of HB 112 in Virginia.
HB 112 states:"It is unlawful to separate any mammalian wildlife offspring born in captivity from the mother prior to the offspring turning four months of age, or such other species-specific age as may be prescribed by regulation of the Board, except that such offspring may be prematurely separated (i) if a medical necessity exists pursuant to a written order from a veterinarian licensed to practice in the Commonwealth and experienced in the care and management of the species being attended, or (ii) for an activity described under subdivision 2."
This is an interesting bill because, on the surface, I believe most people would agree that a baby should not be separated from its mother prematurely. While this bill applies to animals, it reflects an acknowledgment that early bonding and care from a mother are important. Yet this raises a difficult question: how can such protections be prioritized for animals while protections for unborn human life remain heavily debated?
This is an example of what can happen when ideology overtakes common sense and leaves little room for independent thought or moral consistency.
Proverbs 14:7–8 says:"Stay away from a fool, for you will not find knowledge on their lips. The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways, but the folly of fools is deception."
The book of Proverbs is full of God’s wisdom and instruction for living rightly. Prudent people carefully consider their paths, while fools become trapped in deception. In my view, legislation like HB 112 highlights what happens when societies move away from pursuing truth grounded in God’s design.
Today, baby animals may receive legal protections that unborn human babies do not receive under Virginia law. This illustrates how inverted our moral priorities can become. When godly people fail to stand firm and the church ceases to act as a watchman, society risks falling into confusion and disorder.
Ecclesiastes 7:12 says:"Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves those who have it."
God’s wisdom protects people from deception and from adopting false teachings. Many wonder why society seems increasingly angry, divided, and unstable. I believe the answer is simple: as biblical truth has been removed from public life, other foundations have taken its place, often resulting in confusion rather than order.
The Lord is a God of order. He establishes the value of human life, and Scripture teaches that every person possesses inherent worth because we are made in His image. Yet while animal offspring are protected by law, unborn children remain vulnerable—especially as debates surrounding abortion continue and constitutional amendments come before voters. This is what passes as wisdom when knowledge is no longer built upon God’s truth. My prayer is that people’s eyes would be opened to the truth of God and that they would come to know the Lord Jesus Christ.
